I think that the ink and black represents a ‘Sticky situations’ which it means that some things  are hard to get out of. In the opening there is a scene when people are trying to cover up Lisbeth face this could connote guilt or corruption as she does not feel that she is human because of the way the world treats her, the hands could represent people who are pulling her down and are trying to stop her from succeeding or are taking advantage of her.

There is also signals of technology being in use this could represent that this is a reoccurring theme in the whole movie. As technology is something that is very important to our generation this could help people feel intrigued to find out what technology has to do with it, is its uses for good or evil?

Lastly there is also a theme of man and women needing each other to survive, however they are always people pulled apart, it leaves you guessing to think will man and women be together for long or will the world drag them down with them.

The first ten minuets in this film is very interesting and fun to watch. I feel that in the beginning of the movie we start with a problem with the equilibrium, It helps enthrall the audience more.

Analysis

Narrative

Vladimir Propp shows the different ideas of characters that usually appear in movies, mainly action. The different names for Propp's ideas are:

  • Protagonist (Hero)

  • Antagonist (Villain)

  • DAMSEL IN DISTRESS

  • Donor

  • Helper (Sidekick)

  • The false Hero

  • The dispatcher

In Spider man trailer we see most of these charters.

Spider man (Played by Tobey Maguire) who is the hero, we also have, Mary Jane Watson (Played by Kristine Dunset) who is the Damsel or Princess. We also have the antagonist Dr Otto Octaviast (Played by Alfred Molina) Who is turned into Dr Octopus in Spider man becoming a villain.

Analysis

The credit opening is very inventive and non- naturalistic. The transition from red to blue is very smooth, the color imagery makes it seem that theses Robots are cold blooded. However the blood can show death and also life, as too have emotions you need to be alive, this could show that the Robot that has gone to save Spooner ( Played by Will Smith)  had some kind of emotions.

We see that there are two people drowning, it brings up the scenario if there was two people you love dying who would you save? It has the audience in anticipation of what is going to happen to the two people. At first we can not see the relationship between the two characters. However through a shot reverse shot we can see that the Spooner wants the robot to save the other person and not him, here we see that Poryas wanted the audience to see Spooner's relationship between the Robot  through the flashback that was conveyed.

Here we see the magic bullet is being used, as even though the Robot is saving Spooner the way that he is presented is frighting and as even though he may be saving Spooner he may not feel any emotion towards it yet and might just be doing it because it's the right thing to do. In the credit opening it is very hard to differentiate between who is the protagonist or antagonist, we only see that the robot might be a false hero.

The opening looks like a need of survival and desperation. However Spooner does not look as if he happy to be alive. This is shown by the extreme close up of his face. His eyes show tiredness and depression.

The world that is portrayed seems like a dystopia. It seems that fear has been embedded into the audiences mind.

MY SUMMARY

In a world were Robot must follow rules and take care of humans Spooner (Played by Will Smith) want to find out how Alfred Lanning (Played by James Cromwell) was really murdered, as people say that it was suicide. However Detective Del believcves that it was a human like robot (Alan Tudyk) who really killed him.

Todorov Equilibraim

This is a image of Tzvetan Todorov

Todorov came up with the state of equilibrium. This is the idea that a movie has a circular structure. The structure goes like this:

  • A state of equilibrium:

  • A disruption of the order:

  • A recognition that the disorder has occurred:

  • An attempt to repair:

  • A return of equilibrium:

Example

The protagonist is usually the one who tries to restore the equilibrium by trying to kill the Villain.

The villain is usually the one to disrupt the the order he usually gets defeated at the end.

The helper/ donor usually helps with the recognition of the disorder so the hero can attempt to repair.

At the defeat of the antagonist we go back to a cycle of the equilibrium being restored.

This video shows the first two of Todorov's theory

Syde Field

Syde Field came up with the idea of a three plot structure (mainstream)

These are the plot structures:

  • Set - up: First ten minuets must grab the audience attention if not there is a high  chance your film will not be successful.

  • Confrontation: Longest act of the film. There will be a  Number of extreme situation and purpose. However during the Mid point when things turn around.

  • Resolution: The protagonist finally takes control in struggle with their problems

A dystopian post-apocalyptic a place called Panem, both genders at the age of 12- 18 "tributes"  are forced to entertain the Capitol through fighting till there is only one left standing, this is called The Hunger Games. Katniss Everdeen (Jenifer Lawrence) volunteers to take her younger sister's place. Joined by her district's male tribute, Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) Were she will find a way to change the way the hunger games are made to seem.

MY SUMMARY

Analysis

The fiery golden colors are a sign of hope for the districts that are fighting for there life. The fact that they are all dress the same connotes that they are all in they do not have an identity but are just there for the pleasure of other viewers. When Katniss Jenifer Lawrence) is made up to look pretty is too show that they want them to experience pleasure as it may be there last time, showing that they know that there is a chance they will not come back alive.

Iconography is shown to be use through the bow an arrow, as we see this in a close up it shows that will be a very important element  in the movie. Survival is seen through the wide shot of people is a 'get set' stance position. Fear is being portrayed between the districts as Katniss can not stop shaking. As the timer goes down, it signifies also everyday someone losing there lives until there is only one standing.

We see president snow there as well, his name and styling is a contradiction of him as he is seen as someone that has 'blood on his hands' The mis-en-scene makes him look pure but through a close of his face we see that he is conniving.

lastly just like the color the pendent is a sign of hope coming for the district, it also foreshadows that this is not the end for the dystopia that they live in.
