We decided to distribute our opening sequence on YouTube as it was seen that 61% of people use youtube to watch trailers and openings (information from Marketing) Also youtube is known to be used by 1 billion people all over the world making it one of the biggest streaming sites. This why we decided to use YouTube as we thought that it may be able to help get us a lot of reviews on our opening.

We chose to name our production logo Maleficent Beauty  as we were going with the concept of there is more to people than what you see on the outside, as seen with our film not everything is beautiful, so our production would mostly stick with Action/Thriller or crime drama, some of our films may be based on real life situation. We chose a near wilting rose as we wanted to show that beauty will pass and the truth of our inside will soon come to the surface, as you can see the color of the rose leads to the name of our production logo we thought that this would be a nice concept. We chose to use two different types of skies to show that many people think that beauty is more important than people in the inside, however the red in the sky shows that this can lead to betrayal and danger, however it also sets a calm atmosphere showing that you can't just rely on others words but as the rose color leading to the words show, the truth will always come out in the end.

I think that editing was really hard, as I was in charge of editing there was a lot of things I had to think about, for example what type of editing technique would go really well with and Action/ Thriller genre, because It was an opening we thought that putting in a fight scene would be too early in the beginning and we wanted to set up a plot, however we wanted to start with the distribution of the equilibrium because of this we already had a victim killed (Which is shown at the left) and on that has already died (heard through the dialogue) I thought to make the scenes more effective instead of using fast pace edited we used slow motion, this was because I wanted the audience to really see how brutal the 'Silent Killer' was to his/ her victim, I think through the slow motion it shows the black eye as well as the bruised neck, also we used it at the end as well, because there is a bit of dramatic irony, as the police think that a man has killed the victim when it true fact, through the close up of the shoes, the audience is able to tell that it is actually a woman who killed the victim. I also used cutaways to the image of the victim to show that the detective were restless because of this case. I also wanted to use pathetic fallacy so I added in rain to the scene to make the scene unanimous.

Our group used different styles of cinematography some which were challenging because of this we had to re-do scenes multiple times, for example when doing the tracking shot sometimes the camera would  be out of focus or would not be stable enough. during the tracking shot I had to run with the camera, which I found was difficult as I had to keep the P.O.V shot on the victim, whilst making sure I did not trip or hurt myself, which could of caused the camera to break and serious injuries , however because of these shots it made the opening a bit more interesting than using for example a long shot.  I also felt that the canning shot was difficult as well as I had to weave between bodies to be able to get the angle that I felt showed the damage to the victims face properly.

We also used simple shot, like Mid-shots and long shots, and wide shot to help show the setting so the audience understood the location, we also used over the shoulder shot for the conversation, I think to be able to improve we should of used the 180 degree rule however we decided against the shots as after trying to edit them I found that there were not continuous,  however the shot we used the most was close-ups because e we wanted to show how violence of the  'Silent Killer'  we needed to get as close as possible to their faces as well as showing the affect it had on the persons life as well.

Evaluation

Through the evaluation we show our first ideas about our film and how through out filming a lot of things change just like age group and what we wanted to portray through the opening, through a lot of discussion what we first have planned through our first ideas has drastically changed, not so much the context but the location and first idea concept, this was because of our disorganization of our team, I think that if we were able to go back we would have been more organized on how we would presents our action thriller, that's why I think that sometimes people  may not be able to understand the concept of the beginning of the film but some would.

Audience is important as you want to make sure you are selling your movie to the correct audience, here Maliek explains why we chose our age range to be around age fifteen.

Question 5

What attracted our audience

I think what attracted our audience the most was the editing and the music, the music had a large effects in Action/Thriller as it sets up the scene and we used various different styles of sound effects and music to try and convey a very shocking atmosphere and confusing one as well to go with the opening.

Click on my dream cast for codes and conventions

We wanted to subvert and conform to different types of  stereotypes of

some social groups, like having a mental disorder, as we thought it would keep the plot making it interesting and build up the enigma in the play, however  we also subvert the most common one, like having a male protagonist we used two female leads and made the male a side-kick

With sound we used a lot of Final cut Pro sound effects as they helped add to the enigma, it also made the audience feel uneasy, as well as using the instrumental 'The Brink' the music was something that Action/ Thriller movies would use as it was eery and mysterious and added to the tension of the opening scene.

Manipulative - She deceives the police into thinking that she is a man

Lack of empathy- 'She thinks killing is   an 'Art'

Fit in with society - No one knows who she is and they don't know she works for the detectives.

We made the protagonist of our film a woman as well as the antagonist as we wanted to subvert the stereotypes of Action films having the protagonist a male, just like the movies Hunger games and Divergent more female roles of being the protagonist are becoming more common so we wanted to portray this in our opening.

In our our film it may seem as we have used tokenism and subversion as we decided to add both white and black race, however in our film the black race are not the criminals which is usually seen to be as stereotype for the black race. As well as only having on white detective in our film, and a white character as the victim of a death.

Discrimination

The work as a whole must not endorse discriminatory language or behaviour, although there may be racist, homophobic or other discriminatory themes and language.

Imitable behavior

Dangerous behavior (for example, hanging, suicide and self-harming) should not dwell on detail which could be copied. Whether the depiction of easily accessible weapons is acceptable will depend on factors such as realism, context and setting.

Threat

There may be strong threat and horror. A sustained focus on sadistic or sexual threat is unlikely to be acceptable.

Violence

Violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. The strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable. Strong sadistic violence is also unlikely to be acceptable. There may be detailed verbal references to sexual violence but the depiction of sexual violence must be discreet and justified by context.

In our film there is a lot of signs of threat and violence from the psychotic killer which is seen through the voice over, this demonstrates  that the film will be taking a very violent side to it, as well as also having a lot of threats from the killer as well. Also form the opening we can see how violent that it will become form the image of the dead body and also from the first woman who is seen running away from the silent killer. There is also a discrimination of woman seen as only woman are being killed.

Question 6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing the product?

Here are some reactions to our video

I think what attracted our audience the most was the editing and the music, the music had a large effects in Action/Thriller as it sets up the scene and we used various different styles of sound effects and music to try and convey a very shocking atmosphere and confusing one as well to go with the opening.

For our film we used two sites  to try and make our film, such as Final cur pro for the Editing  as well as using Photoshop for our logo. Editing the film we used different elements of final cut pro for example we added in different sound, but every sound had to be  in the right place to sound fluid and smooth. This took up a lot of time as we wanted the sound to be in the exact place to make it seem like one song when it was three different tracks for the beginning of the opening, we also had trouble with the voice over as the background of the voice over kept on coming onto the screen, we also had to break up the voice over  fit into the correct places of the film so the film would be able to unfold through the voice over, and also so the audience could understand that we are mainly going to see the film through the eyes of the 'Silent Killer' however we still did not want to reveal who the person was.

This brings me onto using different paces in the film, I think slow motion was difficult as we did not want it tobe too slow (Which I think some of the scenes are) but the slow motion added great affect to our film, hence why we kept it.

The grey is the different transition we used

The green here is the sound effects we used, like the clicking of the camaera

This is the different music we used in our film, we tried to make sure they were align to the right clip.

This is the different clips we incorpartaed

Question 7

Looking back at your prelim task, what have you learnt in the progression from that to the final product?

The black here shows where we have the black out

I think that we have progressed more from the prelim due to the different technical elements we had used, however I do think that our prelim was a little better than our opening n sequence when it comes to cinematography and clarity of what is happening in the scene. I think the reason for this is the fact that our prelim we had more of a clarity of what exactly we were going to do as it was not difficulty whereas in the opening sequence we explored a lot of different areas that we have not done before, which meant that it was a little bit difficult than the actual Prelim, the fact that we did not use the 180 degree rule is something that  I think if we could go back I would use, as it gives a different view for the audience, also I would get more of an establishing shot, and use Mis-en -scene a bit more like I did in the prelim.

I also think that Our prelim led us to doing Action/thriller as when we first started it it was exciting to do and interesting even though it was just two people talking it had a lot of insight and mystery (to a degree) it set up a plot that was simple as easy to understand, the difference with out opening is that we wanted to make a more complex narrative and leave our audience a bit confused on what was going on and have the office scene a bit more hectic and our of control.

Here you can see the change to the title, we like d the name of the prelim and the concept fitted with the genre so we decided to keep it but change the look of it as the Prelim look more like a T.V show than a movie title.

Keeping the idea of woman having dominance over the male

He we used a long shot as we thought it helped audience understand the location.
